This past week has been a trying and difficult time, as two local mayors launched a surprise attack on my candidacy for re-election as your County Executive and plunged Hudson County into chaos and political turmoil. But it’s also been an inspiring and exciting week, as so many friends and Democratic leaders I have had the honor to work with for many years decided to support me – I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
I didn’t ask for this fight, but I’m not backing down because the people of Hudson County deserve a representative who has their best interests at heart, not a political agenda focused only on grabbing power and influence.
This will not be an easy campaign, but nothing easy is really worth doing anyway. I am proud to have already announced the support of seven of Hudson County’s 12 mayors including Senator and Mayor Nicholas Sacco of North Bergen and Mayor Jimmy Davis of Bayonne, as well as my friend U.S. Representative Albio Sires. Later, they were joined by the first members of our new “Jersey City for DeGise” committee, which includes Councilmen Rich Boggiano and Michael Yun, former mayor Jerry Healy and several other important community leaders. We’ve also been joined by Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez, Freeholder Caridad Rodriguez and three members of the West New York Board of Commissioners. They will be joined by other supporters we will be announcing soon.
I’m asking for your support in this campaign, and for you to please spread the word that we’re not backing down from this fight. You can read more about how this started and why two mayors decided to create a political war in this story from the Jersey Journal.
